Uzoenyi: Am Hopeful Of Getting Better Offers Than Rennes'

Super Eagles winger Ejike Uzoenyi is still eyeing a move to Europe after his six-month loan move to Rennes in France was not extended, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Boko Haram members kill another 18 in Borno

Suspected members of Boko Haram sect again attacked Alau Ngawo Fatie village in the Jere Local Government Area of Borno State, killing 18 people, late on Sunday.

The attack came few days after members of the violent Islamic sect laid siege on a fishing border community of Gashigar and slaughtered over a dozen persons.

The incident has forced an exodus of residents of the community to neighbouring Republic of Niger.

The attack on Alau Ngawo Fatie occurred at about 10pm on Sunday night.

The village head of Alau, Bulama Ibrahim Alau, who spoke to journalists on phone, said, “The Boko Haram insurgents came and launched the attack at about 10pm, shooting people and burning houses. They were in the village operating for nearly two hours without any security personnel coming to the aid of the villagers”

“I personally counted 18 bodies of victims, made up of men, women and children after the Boko Haram members had left the village. Most of those who survived the attack have fled the village as they do not know if they will be attacked again in the future.”

Asked if he knew why Alau was singled out for the attack of the insurgents, Bulama Ibrahim said, “I think they attacked us because our youths have joined the Civilian JTF.”

Another resident of the village, Mustapha Galtimari, who was a former councillor in Jere local government, confirmed that 18 bodies were counted by the villagers after the siege by the members of the sect.

He alleged that several calls were made to security operatives without response as they were left at the mercy of the assailants for about two hours.

A source at the Public Relations Department of the Borno State Police Command told our correspondent on Monday that the command was “yet to receive any report of this incident but we shall furnish you with details anytime we receive the report.”

The spokesman of 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Col Muhammadu Dole, confirmed to our correspondent on the phone that there was an attack.

 “Yes there was an attack on Alau but we don’t have the details yet,” he said.

Nigeria face Morocco in CHAN quarterfinal

Stephen Keshi’s men will lock horns with the Atlas Lions in one of the last eight fixtures of the 2014 African Nations Championship

Super Eagles of Nigeria will play north African rivals Morocco in the quarter final of the African Nations Championship currently going on in South Africa.

[Breaking News] Manchester United Set to Sack David Moyes, Interim Coach Might Take Over -

The club’s owners are ready to bite the bullet and sack Moyes, which would be a costly exercise, and would turn to an interim coaching team of Phil Neville and Ryan Giggs to steady the ship as the club look for a prominent managerial appointment either in the current season or in the summer, dependent on who is available to fill the post. Ribery & Benzema prostitute trial begins

According to the prosecution, both France internationals were aware that Zahia Dehar was a minor when they allegedly slept with her

Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema have gone on trial in Paris for knowingly paying for sex with an under-age prostitute.

France international Ribery is accused of knowing Zahia Dehar was a minor when, in 2009, he flew her to Munich before sleeping with her. He denies the charge.

Compatriot Benzema stands accused of paying for sex with Dehar in a Paris hotel when she was 16. He denies having had any sexual contact with her.

The maximum prison term for the offence is three years, but Ribery's lawyer, Carlo Alberto Brusa, says his client is "confident" that he will be found innocent.

"Mr Ribery is a mature person who has faced difficult times. He is as concerned as anyone who finds himself in the criminal justice system, but at the same time calm," he said.

"We are going in confident and we are going to fight."

Both Ribery and Benzema are currently expected to represent France at this summer's World Cup in Brazil.

Super Eagles deserved their win – Igesund

Under fire Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund admitted his side were well beaten by Nigeria’s Super Eagles adding he had no excuses for the crushing defeat.

Bafana were walloped 3-1 by Nigeria on Sunday evening at Cape Town stadium to bomb out of the tournament being held on home soil.

The Bafana coach however, ruled out quitting saying he had tried his best but on the day had no answers to the swashbuckling Super Eagles juggernaut.

“Nigeria deserved their victory, they were physically stronger, were hard running and fully capitalised on our glaring mistakes. I am going to offer no excuses; we were today beaten by a better side.

“We however, missed some of our regular players especially at the back. But that is no excuse, I will repeat again. We were just not good on the day,” admitted Igesund.

The Bafana coach however, insisted he would not throw in the towel unless his employers force him to do so.

“I had no mandate going into the CHAN tournament. I think this Bafana team has improved greatly in the last few months. I will continue until my contract runs out in June. But if SAFA think it is high time for me to go, that is fine with me. It is not in my hands,” added the coach who told the media the defeat was not his lowest coaching moment.

“I would not say this was my lowest moment. We have to rise up and carry on. “

His counterpart Steven Keshi said he was happy with the outcome and was not much of a surprise as his side has been improving by each game.

“People have been saying a lot about the goalkeeper but I have not seen a perfect human being in the world. He might have had his lowest moment but today, he produced some scintillating performances,” said Keshi.

Agbim Seeks Forgiveness Over Blunders Vs Mozambique

Home Eagles goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim has said he was disappointed to concede a soft goal against Mozambique in a CHAN Group A match on Wednesday night.

   Skipper Agbim was beaten by a Dario Khan 50-yard free kick in the 10th minute to give Mozambique some hope before the Super Eagles turned on their style to finally win 4-2 at the Cape Town Stadium.

“I was disappointed because I don’t think any goalkeeper can be happy conceding that kind of goal,” said Agbim.

“But I wish to thank my fellow players because they have told me to keep strong, keep going and they will fight for me. They are amazing players.”
